Dear Baw08 participants and mods,
Dafne and I would like to "welcome" you to the fifth round of BaW.
We have 12 very dedicated moderators working with us, who will share the numerous tasks ahead on a weekly basis. They are Kat Urbaniak (Canada) and Sasha Sirk (Slovenia) in Week 1, Fernanda Rodrigues (Portugal), Dennis Oliver (Arizona, USA) and Jose Antonio (Brazil) in Week 2, Monica Veado (Brazil), Nelba Quintana (Argentina) and Jose Antonio (Brazil) in Week 3, Sharon Betts (Maine, USA) and Ibrahim Rustamov (Tajikistan) in Week 4, Cristina Costa (England), Ramona Dietrich (Portugal) and Elisabeth Fernandes (Japan) in Week 5, and Dafne (Venezuela) and Teresa (Portugal) in Week 6. As you can see, we are a very international group.
We have been working together for some time to have everything in order and running smoothly as of today, Jan 14. We've put a lot of enthusiasm and commitment into what we hope will be a very successful 6-week teacher development workshop on different Web 2.0 communication tools to enhance the teaching-learning process.
We advise you to take one thing at a time and to only do what your availability permits. However, we know from experience that many participants get the "BaW healthy virus" in their system in the first few hours or days and start spending hours in front of the screen, to the point of neglecting husbands, wives and children. ;-)
If this is already happening, you're in great company, because Daf and I have been infected very healthily for six years now and it's been a very gratifying ongoing "learning collaboratively and in a fun way" process. If you get this virus, you don't need to go to the doctor. But you may need to improve your time management skills. This is very addictive! We love it!
So... try to follow the weekly activities, complete our Diagnostic Survey http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/survey, take part in the ongoing list discusions and participate in as many live/synchronous sessions as possible, such as those of our guest speakers. But there's no need to overdo it. All the materials will be online for the rest of the year. I'd go as far as to say, forever...
We hope you learn a lot from this team of fourteen colleagues and make friends all over the world.
Enjoy your time!
Teresa and Dafne

Dear Teresa and Daf,
thanks for hosting Becoming a Webhead once again!
And also thanking me once again to co-moderate week 5 with my two freinds: Ramona Dietrich and Elisabeth Fernandes.
But first let me introduce myself:
Dear webheads to be,
I am really, really excited to be here.I am Cristina Costa and I am from Portugal. I used to work as an EFL teacher at the Portuguese Navy, but am now working as a Learning Technology Development Officer at the University of Salford, UK. As an EFL teacher I used to involve students in ICT activities. Currently I help academic staff in the efficient use of edu-technology I believe technology can help educators to develop more efficient strategies to involve students in learning situations, provided they don't try to replace the humanware with the software! :-)
And that is what Weheads have taught me. I have learned so much from my friends here. I am really looking forward to thsi session. Now it is up to my dear friend Sasa Sirk and Kat Urbaniak. You couldn't be in better hands.
Have fun. I know I will.

Dear Daf and Teresa,
Thanks for your kind welcome. I bet our Baw virus will spread like
wildfire. :-)

Dear Bawers,

We are finally starting our session, although January 14 is not quite here yet (at least in my neck of the woods). A warm welcome in week 1. Co-moderating this week are Kat Urbaniak and Saša Sirk. This is the introduction week where we hope to learn more about you and give you opportunity to explore the main communication tools used in this course;

- our YG http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/baw08/,
- wiki http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/,
- forum http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/baw08.html,
- and blog http://baw08.wordpress.com/.

Thanks to all those early birds who have already introduced themselves and added their photos to our YG and wiki. The pre-session threads are summarized at http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/PreSessionThreads (work in progress), check them out to meet our smiling faces and see our questions and answers so far. We are looking forward to hearing from you all! :-)

The list of week 1 tasks is at http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/Week1. If you are new to wikis, it is also good to take some time for exploring the wiki playground at http://baw08participants.pbwiki.com/playground. Let's start our journey!

If you have questions, do not hesitate to send them to the Yahoo Group. If we all help each other, we'll make the most out of these 6 weeks. Sharing, helping and supporting each other - that's what the Webheads are all about.

Thank you for joining us. We wish you a joyful ride!

WOW!
That is a great list of countries. That is how international we get and how the web enables that.
Is it great that thru the Internet we are able to overcome most of the time and space barriers. I just wish I could also teleport me physically to all those places and meet you all face to face. Meanwhile it is nice to talk to you all through this means.
Have a great BaW week! ;-)

Would you please add Moldova to your list of countries. Even if I am working and studying in USA, I am from there and I am going back to Moldova as soon as I am done with my Ma, so let's add my country to the list as well!

Thank you!

When I tried to see the new file on the webpage, a message came up saying that this file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Excel and did I want to download a compatibility pack so that I can work with this file? I clicked yes without really knowing the answer and then I got directed to Microsoft Silverlight and Beta sites and I don't really know if I should download this software or not, or even if it's free! Help!!

The messages from the Yahoo Group will also be organised by week into topics and posted on the 'threads' pages on the wiki. This is a great reference resource and makes it easy to see things at a glace. Sasha will send a message at the end of week 1 once the first week'smessages have been collated for the 'threads' page.

Hello everyone!
I'm lost and overwhelmed. All this is completely new to me. I know I have to start small but I don't even know where to start. I think I managed to join the map, to do the survey, and I'm reading the material for this week. But, I missed the session today. I'm not sure how the time works. I went to the clock but I don't know if it is am or pm. Also, I'd like to know what the session was about. Where can I check that? Any suggestions on how to work on all this? Please...
Thanks!

Hi Mariana,
don't worry, it's quite common to feel a little lost at the beginning. You've started off really well, taking the survey and adding yourself to our map, so take your time! :-)
The Sunday session was just a general introduction to all EVO sessions and a way of getting participants to know each other a bit and interact through voice and text chat. Here's where you can find the recording , just go to http://webheadsinaction.org/ and click the play button of the EVO 08 Launch Webcast.
The clock on the wiki page shows GMT time. If you want to check your local time in relation to it, you can check, for example, http://www.qlock.com/time/gmaps?map=1 - juss pass the mouse over your location and voilŕ! :-)
If you want to review the main information about BAW08, take a look at Dafne's very first message to the group, where she provides the most important reminders and links to the tools we'll be using. Above all, don't panic, there's plenty of time and help is just a click away!

Hello dear Webheads new and old,
Things are getting well under way now with more than 200 webheadsparticipating this year. A lot of you have introduced yourselves sofar but I am sure there are more to come, so don't be afraid to comeout of the woodwork and say hi.
Not sure what you should be doing? The list of this week's tasks canbe found on the wiki at http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/Week1
So, by the end of this week you will have done the following things
o completed the diagnostic survey
o introduced yourself to the group
o added your profile to the participant wiki

o gotten familiar with the features of our Yahoo Group and wiki
o attended the first live session at Tapped In
o commented on the presentation of the week in the blog
o answered the questions of the week
o read and commented on the Week 1 readings in the forum
If you are new to wikis in particular, it is a good idea to take sometime to explore the wiki playground at http://baw08participants.pbwiki.com/playground before adding your profile to the gallery. Also try to ensure yourpicture is small enough. 100x100 pixels is an ideal size.
Please also take some the time to explore the main communication tools used in this course
o our YG http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/baw08/
o wiki http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/
o forum http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/baw08.html

Dear Moderators,
I was actively participating till 13 th jan 08. I listened to the live session that day. I did not chat through skype as I dont have a headphone. I will be getting one this evening. My skype id is also jaichelluin. I have not tried text chat also yet. I am ofcourse afraid to initiate.
In India we are now celeberating Pongal ( a festival after harvest, a thanks giving ceremony) . I was busy with it yesterday and this morning.
(I wish the Indian participants " Happy Maharashankaranthi" )All that I could do was checking out my emails and learnt something. I went through week 1 activities. I want to tell you that I completed the diagnostic survey, introduction, adding profile and photos in map and wiki even before Jan 13th. Should I do it again please answer.
I couldn't understant what you mean by presentation. What is it and where I should look for it and comment in the blog?
I will be making a comment on the readings in the forum very shortly.
Please tell me how and where to learn the daily lessons.
I understand that I am troubling you with so many questions please bear with me and kindly help me.

Dear Bawers,

It's day 3 and we've already seen numerous intros, welcomes, questions and answers here. Way to go!

Since a lot of recurring questions posted here refer to very basic information given to you a number of times in our introductory messages, we'd like to kindly remind you that it is very important to carefully read the guidelines we post for you and to check and bookmark important links so that you have this information handy. Here's a brief review of the important links and guidelines mentioned so far:

Our main communications channels are:
• Yahoo Group: our "communications center" for general communication among all participants, essentially, email messaging http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/baw08.
If you haven't done so already, we suggest you set your mail preferences to receiving daily digests to avoid clogging your inbox with numerous messages.

• Wiki: where you find all the information about the session and where you will also be "adding your own content" (your intros, photos, other producs) http://baw-08.pbwiki.com
The wiki password for the pages where you can add content is: bawpart. Make sure that the pages you are going to edit have this root URL: http://baw08participants.pbwiki.com
Also make sure that you edit the wiki using Classic Mode and not the new Point and Click Mode. Switching between the two editors results in a mess.
If you forget the password, you can find it in the files section of our Yahoo group.
Do not steal the lock on the wiki from coordinators and co-moderators. Message or skype before stealing it from participants if they have been editing the wiki for more than 30 minutes.

• Blog: to discuss the weekly live guest presentations http://baw08.wordpress.com

• Forum: to discuss our suggested weekly readings http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/baw08.html You can register to this forum, to be able to add your comments.

Other important, really useful links are

• the 'Hints' page (see the Side bar of our wiki), which will probably save you initial messages with questions about Yahoo Groups and other things,

• the 'Tutorials' page (see the link in the Side bar of our wiki), where you will find tutorials on uploading files to the wiki and resizing photos,

• the 'Weekly Threads' pages summarizing the most important topics of the week. (see the 'Weekly Activities' link in the Side bar of our wiki). The 'Pre-Session Threads' page are already posted on the 'Weekly Activities' page – check them out to see how we dealt with problems we encountered so far,

• the PBwiki Help pages and the Wiki Playground (see the Side bar of our wiki) for familiarizing with the Classical editor (warmly recommended if you are new to wikis),

• the "Glossary"page (see the Side Bar of our wiki).

It's a long message but should save us all a lot of recurring questions if read carefully.

Thanks in advance,

The Baw 08 Team

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to work through this week's tasks and have come up with a number of questions.
1. I put my photo and message on the map, but when the balloon appears, it has "Move marker" and "Edit..." on it. I haven't seen that on anyone else's. How can I remove it?
2. My photo is too big for the Wiki Gallery. After reading several replies to other participants with the same problem, I understand that I need to use Thumbnails or Flicker to make it smaller. When I went to the sites given by Jose and others, I found out I have to download a program. Each time I download another program my computer gets slower and slower. I realize I'll need to download some programs for BaW 2008 and imagine I can uninstall them afterwards. Your suggestions/thoughts, please.
3. Ever since I put my introduction in the Wiki Gallery, I keep getting messages showing "front page was just edited" with other people's intros and red/green editing. Am I supposed to be getting all of these?
4. Are participants getting on Skype at any time to meet/discuss
topics, or are there some designated times?
Thanks much,
Sally La Luzerne-Oi

1. Everyone has the option to move their own pin on the map so you can see this on yours but noone else can. So I can move my pin for example, but not anyone else's.
2. Do you use a pc? Do you Microsoft Picture Manager? This might already be on your computer.
3. When you added your profile to the wiki there was check box that if left checked means you get emails telling you when others make changes. You can find a link in the emails to change your notification preferences.
4. Here are the live sessions: http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/Live_Sessions

Hi Sally,
This is Jose, let me guide you with the picture stuff, because kat has already helped you with the map. I susggest you go to flickr and opne an account if you don´t have one. It is very useful and you can upload an unlimited number of pictures (i guess) and have them stored in the web and access them form anywhere and you od not need to download any program.
After you have an account do the following:
1. Upload your picture to flickr.
2. once you see the picture on the flickr website click on it.
3. Above the picture you will see and icon that reads ALL SIZES click on it.
4. Next you will see some options of sizes, click on THUMBNAILS
5. Copy the URL that reads thumbnails and paste it to the wiki page.
Remember to use brackets o enclose the url. I hope it can help. Please let me know if youhave any porblems. My skype ID is joseantoniook

Hi Carlos,
Unfortunately I can't tell if we are supposed to be all on line or just some; sometimes is difficult to keep up with all the info :-( But at least I can tell you that Skype is a phone service using the internet (it's free from computer to computer) and you can easily download it at http://www.skype.com Hope to have been clear enough and to have contributed to clarify some of your worries!

Hi, Carlos!
You'll probably get a better answer from one of the moderators. This is just my contribution.
If by "here" in question 1 you mean the Yahoo Group, there may be other people online at this very moment, but this makes no difference.Yahoo Group is an assynchronous tool used by all of us to exchange ideas, clarify some points or announce events, for instance. It's useful because we guaratee we all get the same information and we can talk to everybody.
Skype is a software program that allows users to make telephone calls over the internet to other Skype users free of charge, or to landlines and cell phones for a fee. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer, short message service, video conferencing and its ability to circumvent firewalls (this I got from wikipedia). To get Skype for your computer you have to download the latest version of Skype from http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/ that it is very (I also googled this info for us)
We are going to have a whole week to learn more about skype later.
I hope this helps you.

Hi Carlos and Pat,
We will be online live (synchronously) when we have live sessions with guest speakers (once or twice aweek). These sessions are posted here: http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/Live_Sessions However, we can establish contact via Yahoo Messengeror Skype. Skype is VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol). You can text-chat, voice chat and at the same time use webcams. Skype conferences allow up to 9 people simultaneously.
We created a database where everybody can add theirYahoo and Skype IDs. It is located in the Database section of our Yahoo Group. I have added some oft hese contacts to my Skype. If you find me online, feel free to call. It is advisable to first send atext-message to see if the person is available to speak, ir order not to interrupt if the person is already speaking.

Thanks, Pat for your contribution which has been quite clear. As Marica has said, moderators or other Baw 08 may be online at the moment you open Yahoo chat or Skype. But in order to know who is also on line you must have added them to your contact lists and got their approval. Some participants have added me to their yahoo chat contact list, and if I am online we talk about this experience.
Where can you get IDs ? at DATABASE in our YG.

Hi, Mary!
The live sessions and their dates, times and venues are all in the wiki "Live Sessions" link (in the Sidebar) by weeks. In addition to that, there will be a reminder message the day before and a then again few hours before. At least one message will go out.
Remember that the times are in GMT (our standard), so you need to go to the World Clock site http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/full.html and see what time it corresponds to in GMT. HTH

Hi, I wanted to try and answer the questions of the week. The most difficult one was the one in Tapped In but in previous messages (#716and 724) that Sasa answered, you said we should be able to answer tothat one after the live session. But I just wanted to dive in and try to answer them. Here I go:

  • How do you change your mail distribution preferences at our Yahoo Group?
Click on Edit Membership at the top. Go to Step 2: Message Delivery and you choose if you want to get Daily Digest or Individual messages(better Daily Digest for the amount of mails we get :))

    * How do you post a photo to the wiki?
    1. Log in tothe wiki
    2. Check if your image is not too big, otherwise it would use a lot of space in the wiki.
    3. Click Edit Page at the top in the page you want to edit.
    3. Upload your picture in the FILE section.
    4. Once you've got it in the file, just drag the picture to the place you want it.

    * How do you join an office in Tapped In if you are at the reception?
Click on a user name under the Online tab, and then click Join in the Action menu

I'm not so sure about the answers now that I've typed them... but I rather be wrong than not answer them and learn from my mistakes.

    See you all around,
    Love from Argentina,
    Lore

Dear Lore,
1. yes, that's how we change mail distribution.
2. Concerning adding the photo to the wiki - simply put the cursor where you want the photo and click on the photo...or rightclick the photo to copy its url between the square brackets []. I wasn't sure about dragging so I tried it and it seems not to work. Others, correct me if I'm wrong.
3. Concerning TI - yes, that's one of the options. We'll learn about others soon. :-)
Good job! Look forward to meeting you on Sunday.

Dear all:
Hope they're as follows:
1) Go to the edit membership of your group and where it says step 2 message delivery, you may choose the daily digest if you want to limit the amount of emails you want to receive. Then you save the changes made.
2) You can add the link to the picture in brackets by selecting the files link at the top of the pbwiki page and upload the picture you may choose from your computer's desk. When this picture appears on the right side of the wiki, you just right-click on it, the URL is copied and it gets uploaded.
3) You can sign in as guest or member. If you visit it as a guest your are given an IP address (numbers) and a password (letters and numbers). You have to use this password in order to gain access to the different floors and browse the files and group discussions that suit you the most.

See you around,
Mirian.

Dear friends,
....I also want to share with you all a number of issues that are now on my mind.
First, are we all really supposed to post our answers here? Wouldn't that mean a lot of redundancy since mail delivery settings in YG for instance is fairly straightforward and I wonder if our dear mods & co-mods (as well as others) really want to read 200 similar posts about that?
Second, I think somebody mentioned a webinar about Wiziq. Is anybody familiar with that? I would like to know if there are other websites offering similar services and how they compare. Is anyone here familiar with Webex?
Third, I find reading from the screen a bit taxing as there are lots of writing and images on most pages that are not part of the content and have to be skipped/ignored. Still you can't discard them without processing. I wonder if you feel the same. Also, body movement is more limited when sitting at the computer, and I find myself stretching and rubbing a numb leg.
Fourth, I have just got an account in Second Life but I feel quite lost there. Anybody out there to help?
Fifth, as I don't like mice very much, I'm usually happier to use a keyboard to get things done until voice recognition is perfected to make that unnecessary. In IE, most pages scroll with spacebar, Pg Up, Pg Dn, Home & End keys. Curiously, these are inactive when I open a mail in Yahoo, which is really inconvenient with long messages such as digests. Any ideas as how to fix this?
Sixth, apologies for this long message. I'll cut it short right here!
Thanks all and stay well,
I may not surface again until the end of next week as I am tied up in
work. But I read all the messages and closely follow the friendly and
informative interaction.
See you around at TI.

Dear Ehsan,
thanks for your hello. I'll just briefly answer two of your questions
here.
1. posting answers to questions: post them if you want to,
2. problems with reading long digests: I find it much more efficient to read messages directly in the YG (there is an option to read them 'grouped by topic', you'll find the link for this option just above the list of messages. This seems to be the best way to me to keep up with what's going on. The topics I read are redded, so it's easy to see what is new...

Saša

Hi all! I think I'm ready to post my answers.
-- To post a photo on Wiki :
1) First, you need to make sure that your photo is not too big. You need to select the photo you wish to post on the Wiki page and use softwares such as Thumbnail that enable you to resize your photos. They can be downloaded for free on the Web.

2) Go to BaW Wiki page and click on "Participants Gallery". Click on "Files", then "Browse". Search the picture you had selected into your hard drive, then click "upload". The file selected will appear in the list below the "Browse" area.

3) Click on home to go back to the first Wiki page of BaW. Click on "Edit Page". The very first time, you will be asked to enter the password. Scroll down the text until you find a free spot ("You name here, you photo"). Delete the "photo" line and click on the photo you just uploaded (it should be on the menu on the right side of the page). A web address will appear.

4) Click on "Save" and make sure everything looks fine.

-- To change you message preferences on Yahoo Group:
1) Go BaW's Yahoo Groups page.
2) Click on "Edit membership". Make the changes.
3) Click on "Save the changes".

-- To join an office in Tapped In:
1) Log in (as a member if you registered, or as a guest).
2) You will enter the reception automatically. Click
on "Search" and type the name of the person you are looking for.
Click on the person's name in the result list. Their info will
appear, as well as a little yellow door icon: it's their office
icon. IT tells you if you can come in or not. Just click on the link
to their office – there you are !
Thank you for all your positive feedback on this attempt!

Hi everybody!
Here are the answers to questions Week 1:
1)How do you change your mail distribution preferences at our Yahoo group?
First you should click on Edit membership and when you get to Step 2 Message delivery you should choose the best option which in our case seems to be Daily digest. In this way you avoid tons of messages.
2)How do you post a photo to the wiki?
There are two ways: I've tried a)
a) You should upload your photo to a server. (I used flickr. It also allowed me to resize it because it was too big. I copied the URL) Then you should log in to the wiki and click on Edit this page- Then you should insert the URL of your picture beteen straight brackets URL where you want your picture to show. A piece of cake!!
b) You should upload your photo to the FILES section of the wiki. When you click Edit this page you see your photo on the right side. Then you should put the cursor where you want the photo to be and click on the photo. You'll get the URL of your photo where you put the cursor.
In both cases remember to save the page. Then you'll be able to look at your photo.
3) How do you join an office in Tapped In if you are at the reception?
Well, I believe there are different ways. From my little experience today when I registered and visited this environment I've found out some ways.
a) Select a favourite place from the "Favourite Places" pull-down menu
that appears near the top right of the window and click the "Go" button.
b)Go to Tapped In: Places and click on the name of one of the rooms
in the directory listing.
c)Type "/joinperson username" (where username is the username of a
Tapped In member) to go to the current location of that member.
d)Click on the name of a username and the door icon at the bottom and you move to the office that this user goes.
I believe I have to continue visiting this place to get used to it!
I hope to join tomorrow.
Love,
Silvia from Argentina.

I was about to go when I remembered that I has three questions to answer
So for question 1 "How do you change your mail distribution preferences at our Yahoo Group?"
I actuallty did that as my e-mail started being overloaded with e-mails and to clean it, it took me quite a while

Question 2 - How do you post a photo to the wiki?
Edit page - choose the destination of the photo inserting the cursor, then on the right upload photo and use Thumbnail (top left of the file list) if it is too big. Then wait for the photo to show on the photo gallery or press see all, click on the photo and the file descrption will go to place where you left the cursor ( re-check the place where the cursor is before clicking on the photo.

Question 3 - How do you join an office in Tapped In if you are at the reception?
First and very important, there seems to be always someone at the reception willing to help you. There is the possibility to open a username's list on the left and when you select it, it goes to his or her office and is automatically added to space on top right where the places you are connected to are on. Gateways on the left also let us go round.

Well, most of my work for year one is done...

Hi.
Hope that everyone is well. Can Someone push some information my way.
Regarding the tapped in sessions, I know (at least Ithink I know) that they are available to listen to after the live sessions, but are they available as podcasts? It would be great to listen to them while on the move and cutting down the time spent in front of the computer. Unfortunately the time difference (GMT+9) and work just doesn't allow me to be at the GMT 5pm sessions or the GMT 12 am sessions
Also, I am having difficulty accessing the week 1readings from the wiki. On the weekly readings page I am told to click on "Baw Readings" in the widget but there's no widget and no readings (or is it right infront of my nose and I'm just oblivious?). I've been to the Baw Forum and seen that the moderators have posted links to the files in the first posting of each reading discussion page, but the link to the reading entitled "Making the transition to teaching online"produces a blank pdf. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hope that everyone managed to enjoy some time away from the computer over the weekend.
All the best,
Simon.

Hi, Simon.

I'll try to help.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The Tapped In sessions are text only; there is no audio component. A transcript of the chat will be available after the meeting, but since it is text only, it will not, unfortunately, be available as a podecast.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1. Go to the BaW08 wiki.
2. Double-click on "Week One Activities" in the right sidebar menu.
3. Double-click on the colored, underlined "Week 1" in the table.
4. Scroll down in the left-hand sidebar to #5 under "Activities."
5. Double-click on the colored, underlined "readings."
6. Under the white box that says "Click on BaW 2008 Readings . . ." you should see a black box. In the box, you should see "BaW 2008 Readings" and "EVO 2008." Double-click on "BaW 2008 Readings."
7. To do the readings, double-click on the links that are next to the small blue balls: "UG OOL: Hints for Learning On-Line," "Illinois Online Network: Educational Resources," the URL for Eric.Ed. For the first two items above, double-clicking on the links will enable you to do the readings online. For the last item (Eric), a .pdf file should automatically download to your computer.
8. To open the Eric .pdf, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you don't, you can download it free by going here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
9. When Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on your computer, double-click on the Eric .pdf and wait for it to open. You can then read a 34-page Eric document.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I hope you're able to spend some time away from your computer, Simon. Hours and hours and hours in front of a monitor, especially when things are new, is de-energizing in the extreme. Take a break and go outside for a while!
All the best to you as well--

This is my first communication as I am finishing my semester this week and, after correction of the finals, flying to Seattle from my home in Israel, to visit my parents during semester break. THEN, I will have time to digestall this new technology. I am planning to take the Tappedin tour on Sunday evening, however, but was unable to open the Database link. Clicking on ityields nothing....

Hi
I’m trying to add myself to the map, but I cannot! I try to move the pin, from moron to capital federal, and it sort of crashes. Is it a technical problem, or it’s me that I’m doing sth wrong?

Thanks in advance

Hi.It seems that i'm going backwards. I've been busy exploring the wiki tools then I realised that there was a diagnostic survey to complete. I tried to do so but it says "This form can no longer accept submissions". Deos it mean that there was a deadline i didn't respect?

Hi Hassane,
It isn´t your fault. This free survey application only accepts 100 responses, and we got to the limit. So, I am creating a new form. I will let everybody know when it is available. I am going to a meeting now, but as soon as I finish, I will work on that. Thanks for making us aware of this issue :-)

Dear all,
I created a new survey in another application that I just discovered. If you have not completed the diagnostic survey you can do so now at: http://baw08participants.pbwiki.com/diag_survey Click on the link on the page above, and the survey will show up, just like magic ;-) If you have already filled in the previous survey, please don´t complete this one, but you can open it to see the layout and then close the page.

Thanks for your patience :-)

Hi Mary,
Pbwiki also accepts HTML and when we want to spice ita bit, we use some codes, but you are not supposed toknow html to edit the wiki. Just write your commentsbetween vertical lines || if you want a table.
Please check the tutorial on how to upload an image to pbwiki and you will see how to add it to your profile: http://baw-08.pbwiki.com/Tutorials#Uploadingfiles
There are also some other tips on using pbwiki in the navigation bar of the wiki

Dear all,
we have many profiles and photos already in our Participants' Gallery. Way to go! :-)
A word of caution here: when editing this page, do not use the new Point and Click editor (there are two options for editing wikis; the classical editor - which we use in our wiki, and the Point and Click editor, which is more user friendly but also more buggy). When you edit a wiki page you see the option for switching the editor in the right upper corner (if you use Classic Mode, you'll see the option for Point and Click Mode there, if you use Point and Click mode it's the other way round)
It's important to use the classical editor and not to switch to Point and Click, because this makes a mess out of the page. Make sure you only use Classical Mode when editing our wiki. This will save us some trouble.
Look forward to seeing all your pics and intros there,
Hugs,
Saša

I would like to add to what Sasha said, that in orderto help you with the classsic editor there are somehelp pages on our wiki (Look at the bottom of the navigation bar on the right). These is one of the tutorials for the classic editor:http://yummy.pbwiki.com/WikiStyle"> http://yummy.pbwiki.com/WikiStyle You can practice your wiki editing skills on ourplayground page at: http://baw08participants.pbwiki.com/playground You can play around on this page before adding your profile to the wiki.
Btw, if you forget the password for the wiki(bawpart), you can find it in the Files section ofour Yahoo Group.

Dear participants,
When somebody is editing the wiki, if you try to edit, you will get a message that the page is being edited. After 5 minutes, you can steal the lock from that person. I would appreciate that if you see that I am editing the page (Daf) do not steal the lock from me, because when I am editing, I am usually fixing any problem another participant had with the wiki. Please, be patient, I always try to be as fast as I can. Of course, the more things I need to fix the longer I will stay editing.

Thanks in advance,

HELP!! I 've just finished listening to a live broadcast from the Webcast Academy instead of what I thought was Webheads kickoff. It wasn't easy to tell it was the wrong one as Jeff Lebow's name was mentioned several times. I moved in and out of various rooms and the streaming just kept coming. I know the kickoff was supposed to be at 1600 so it couldn't still be running almost 3 hours later in my time zone so I thought maybe it was a recording but NO. Can anyone tell me where to find the recording now?
Also I'm really new to all this online stuff and if I understand correctly, the next session is TAPPED IN on Sunday 20th at 1700 GMT. So what do we do during the week? Is there anything going on that I should plug in to besides getting familiar with all the stuff that's been suggested.
Also I haven't been able to find instructions about how to enter Skype text chat now that I've installed Skype on my PC. I've downloaded the Skype software and typed 'echo123' to test my audio. I got a loud booming sound like a fire hydrant so is this okay, maybe just need to turn the volume down? I also tried to get a test call but it asked me to download credit in my account. What should I do? How do I check that my phone will work. I have a headset, will need to find out if works.

I f you want to add me to your account my id is joseantoniook To add you should click on the icon ADD and copy and paste the ID you want to add. Next, you should click on CCONTACTS and you will see a list of people's IDs. The one that has a green check are online. If you want to chat with them you will just have to riight click on the green icon and you will see the options CHAT (a balloom)or START A CALL. It is better always start with a text chat and then ask tthe contact if he/she would like to take a voice call. If you want to test it out with me, it will be a pleasure tohelp you.
